We’ll be Draining the Swamp in 2018…One Candidate At A Time…

I’ve been thinking about spotlighting some interesting candidates running against “Swamp Monsters”.  I closed Liberty Candidates  in 2014 because people had grown apathetic and it was probably because most of the Liberty Candidates were running Libertarian and no one ever won.  We never got a Senator or Congressman elected that ran in the Libertarian Party and people didn’t want to donate to those doing a dress-rehearsal for office.

But things have changed, and his name is Donald J. Trump…. and against all odds he woke up a nation on the brink of globalism and they were able to push back a government that was ready to charge them money for breathing or expelling gas…. AND against all odds, candidates running as “Deplorables” all over the country started winning Primaries and Senate and Congressional and State Seats….. the clouds started to part and the sun started to peek through….

And Then Austin Petersen said he was running as a Republican.  Augustus Invictus switched parties.  Omar Navarro stepped up to run against Maxine Waters….. and Shiva Ayyadurai, a Liberty loving Republican and the inventor of email, stated he was a “real Indian” running against “fake Indian” Elizabeth Warren.

So what is happening here?  Ordinary citizens who believe they can do what was, until recently unobtainable, are running for office and they’re actually running against the Liberal Elite.  They’re running to win because we’ve seen this happen since Trump was elected with people like Karen Handle who won against all odds and big money Liberals in Georgia.  There were also wins in Kansas with Rob Estes, Montana with Greg Gianforte, and South Carolina with Ralph Norman.  The sun is not just peeking through it’s beginning to shine!

These new Republicans are aware of the deep state, fake media, John McCain and human trafficking. They’re aware of socialist trying to take over the government, Obama and his shadow government and the cost of war. They’re aware that socialized medicine is not the way and that we can’t keep spending…..  It’s not perfect. No, it’s not the Ron Paul Revolution …but it’s a good start and it’s happening now.

We see what’s happening in the House and we know that people like Rand Paul and Thomas Massie and Mike Lee  need help.  They’re not perfect either but they are certainly going to hold our President’s feet to the fire.  We need more of that and less drowning our President in fake news and made up narratives because the left has not gotten their way and it’s looking like a never-ending battle for them and they’re losing elections….

So what of the Libertarian Party?  There is no place for people to run in this party of dress-rehearsal if we want to take our country back or make it great again…. The party that blows its wad every 4 years on some Presidential Candidate with no chance of winning –even compromises itself by choosing a candidate who goes against Libertarian Principles for 5%…..yet they never take the time or use their resources to help candidates who are running for the House or State Seats…..

So we’re looking for Winners. They’re looking for people who are running on a platform of limited government once again but whom actually WANT TO WIN!

Looks like Some interesting races are already in the works…..We’re going to be putting some in the spotlight because we don’t want to drain the swamp with more Swamp Monsters…..We’d like to see some new contenders step up and make waves.  Deplorables and Liberty Minded Individuals running as Republicans against those who NEED TO GO.

Stay tuned…

Let me know if you’re a Deplorable or you know of a candidate who is  looking to Drain the Swamp.  Lets work together and help get the job done.

Dear Generation Y…..The Pillsbury Dough Boy and I

I was born in 1959.  For the most part I grew up with all the “new and improved” in life.  The sixties and seventies were a time of ‘wonderful’ new inventions and conveniences so that people had more time for…..work?  I’m not sure what the reason was but I grew up with the likes of the Pillsbury Dough Boy and the Kool-Aid Kid.  Sweet N’Low and Twinkies.  I had no idea until now that making biscuits was as easy as spending 10 minutes putting together some flour, buttermilk and baking soda. I didn’t realize until 55 years later that I could make my life more convenient by living longer and eating right rather than spending time going to the doctor –as I watch my parents, generation Y, make a social life out of doctor visits.

Why was it so hard for this generation that bore me to get vegetables from a market rather than opening a can?  Why was a frozen TV dinner or pot pie turned into a nightly meal for most of my peers?  Why did we stop putting butter on our bread and opt instead for a ‘crown’?

life1501

Taystee Cakes, My-T-Fine Pudding, Shake ‘n Bake, Cheez Whiz, Spaghetti O’s…..  It took me until now to realize I could cook with real ingredients and whole food and make these same things from scratch in the same amount of time….. And I work, clean my house, paint furniture, fight the state, run for office, run organizations, food shop and play and watch TV and have time to write a blog too….     Was it worth all that ‘convenience’ to live on a daily regime of pills to keep you alive generation Y?

Now we not only have chemicals in our food but our entire food system is destroyed by a company that used the same ‘ingredients’ to kill the enemy in your war against the Vietnamese –the chosen enemy at the time to keep the military industrial complex alive and happy.   Somehow in return for ‘convenience’ your children grew up on toxic chemicals with tiny marshmallows until their own children –our children today– live in a world diagnosed with acronyms and are prescribed more chemicals to ensure they are customers for life to the heads of the state of Big Pharma.

grands-bisuits

What happened? When did a biscuit become thirty something chemicals with some salt on top? When did the Pillsbury Dough Boy become the biggest balloon at the parade to the smiling faces of a generation of chemically poisoned children?

Well I’m here to tell you that you can do it.  You can make biscuits.  You can make biscuits that require only a few ingredients and it will take you the same amount of time as it does to pop open a can and separate the little disgusting chemically induced dough pieces and slide them into the oven.

Recipe:

2 Cups of Flour

2 tsp of Baking Powder

1/2 tsp of Baking Soda

1 tsp of Salt

1 stick of Butter

3/4 cup of Buttermilk

Pre-heat Oven to 425 degrees.  Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt.  Cut 6 tablespoons of cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.  Stir in buttermilk.  Place dough by ice-cream scoop size lumps onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Brush with a little melted butter. Bake 10 – 15 minutes until tops are golden.

(I used all organic ingredients and added fresh herbs – sage, rosemary and thyme)

Yeah, that’s real hard to do……

The dough boy needs to die off because he’s killing us and our kids.  Foods of convenience –thank you for nothing generation Y.  Why did you forego real food for chemicals in a box?  Time for us to go back to basics.

Endorsement for Peter Nichols who is running Anti-Party –the kind of Party We Should All Be Supporting

TH_peternichols-300x224

I keep trying to step away from politics but it keeps sucking me back in when I least expect it.  I was having fun zombie-ing out and watching my reality TV shows and shoving bonbons down my mouth while getting my nails done when along comes this little article in the local Huntingtonian newspaper that knocks my socks off…..  Peter Nichols, who once ran for Huntington Town Council as a Libertarian, has decided to run for County Legislature in Suffolk’s 17th district…..and he’s running as a write-in candidate!

It’s not that there is no time to collect signatures or that he has no manpower behind him or that he doesn’t have enough donations –but, the most liberty minded libertarian I’ve ever met, has come to realize after doing it once before that going out there and using up all your time and energy and resources and the time and energy of your friends and family to collect signatures on a third party line is the most RIDICULOUS THING ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY DO!

The two party system on Long Island is filled with criminals in office with expendable lawyers and cash it seems (WAIT –is that expendable cash your taxpayer money?? Probably :)) and they go after anyone who runs third party by challenging their signatures.  Peter knows this.  I know this.   They took me to the 5th level supreme court to waste my time, energy and dollars by challenging my 5,191 signatures during the 2014 State Senatorial race for 5th district.  It’s what they do.  It’s the game they play.  The Republicans and Democrats tag team off of each other taking turns which third party candidates to go after.  In all my years in the Libertarian party it’s been one candidate after another –out there spending their summer collecting signatures AFTER the Republicans and Democrats have done so, I might add, so that they can spend the second part of their summer in court trying to prove they didn’t commit fraud!   It’s a vicious cycle and it’s not going to end as long as the people keep on voting for these scam artist.  Third parties don’t have the donations and income in order to market themselves like the BIG TWO –especially when whatever donations they bring in ends up getting spent on frivolous lawsuits. Many of the lawyers and judges in these cases can do this in their sleep.  It’s a ploy and a tactic to keep ordinary American citizens from joining the rat pack of American politics.

Peter is going to run as a write-in candidate and he’s not going to spend any time or money WASTING his time and money collecting any signatures.  Imagine if the people in the 17th legislative district woke up and took a stand and made a statement that could possibly domino into something grand and great like taking our country back??  Something so simple as walking into the polling place on election day and writing in a candidates name rather than voting party line.

How many more articles in Newsday do we have to be subjected to giving us the skinny on yet another NY legislature or party boss getting arrested for fraud? Haven’t we seen enough of this? Aren’t we tired of paying taxes to line the pockets of these criminals who seem to be making more laws and rules that tip in their favor?
Here’s what you get if you write in Peter Nichols’ name…..a man who truly believes in freedom, liberty and small government. A man who doesn’t want to create any more laws to control your life or to generate more income for the mob squad running our government now.  Take a stand on election day and stop voting for the reason’s we are the most expensive place to live in the country with the biggest criminals in office.  Write-in your vote.  Do the Write thing.

On GMO’s and Libertarianism by Gene Trosper

images (1)

I’ve looked at both sides and I was initially very much against mandatory labeling. Mandatory *anything* activates my libertarian reflexes.

Let’s leave science out of the argument. Let’s leave the hipster “foodie” angle out of it. Instead, let us focus on the following:

Freedom of choice
Corporatism and corporate welfare
Freeing the market

Libertarians find themselves in a pickle: how to shrink (or even eliminate) government in the face of an ever-growing behemoth. Branches may be hacked, but the tree keeps growing. Clearly, voting for liberty-friendly candidates hasn’t had an iota of influence over shrinking government. Our much vaunted “think tanks” issue some good ideas, but the legislature generally ignores those ideas. Protests? They send us to “free speech zones” or hit us with tear gas, water cannons, LRAD, and goons with armor and billy clubs. Yeah…pretty ineffectual.

But what if you can turn government upon itself? Fight fire with fire?

That’s where mandatory GMO labeling comes into play. By passing labeling in one or two states, you begin the process of state governments (who are bound to defend voter-approved initiatives) conflicting with the federal government. This is currently what is happening with the marijuana legalization movement in numerous states. These states are essentially weakening segments of the federal government. Do libertarians generally support these legalization movements, especially in Washington and Colorado? You bet. However, these laws contain some anti-liberty components. yet, with these anti-liberty components, the good vastly outweighs the bad. These initiatives are a net benefit to liberty. The same can be said of mandatory GMO labeling.

The makeup of modern agriculture is not one of family farms, but one of massive corporate “factory farms” who rely on federal subsidies to maintain and increase their profit. This is wrong to any liberty minded individual. Corporations benefit from the stolen money of taxpayers to feather their already luxuirious nests. These subsidies are also used to help “study” and develop GMO crops.

Libertarians like to say they are for freedom of choice. One popular LP bumpersticker proclaims “I’m Pro-Choice on Everything!” However, for the average shopper, freedom of choice in the grocery store with regard to GMO foods is close to impossible. Yes, there is a voluntary NON-GMO labeling project underway and that is a good thing. But it barely comes close to scratching the surface. It’s said that roughly 90% of all corn and soybeans are genetically modified. Walk down the isle of your grocery store and read the ingredients list. It’s absolutely astounding how many products contain corn and/or soy products. These products are all silent as to whether they contain GMO ingredients.

So, here we have an interesting situation: big ag corporations feasting on taxpayer subsidies to develop and produce products that are genetically modified, which are most assuredly in most foods consumers purchase at the grocery store — and these products are unlabeled. So, where is the freedom of choice for consumers? How does one tell if the food they are purchasing contains products which their stolen taxpayer dollars helped to develop and produce? How can they determine if those products contain ingredients which can have potentially negative consequences for their health and the health of their families? Consider: if these ingredients DO have potentially negative health consequences, how evil is it for corporations to use taxpayer money to foist these products onto the consumer? It’s like forcing someone to pay for the bullet they will be shot with.

If that isn’t bad enough, the freedom of choice for consumers is limited even more by so-called “veggie libel laws”, which make it a civil offense (in Colorado, it is a criminal offense!) to imply that certain food products are “bad”. The biggest example is the lawsuit the Texas cattlemen filed against Oprah Winfrey. She did an episode on Mad Cow Disease and declared she would not eat beef anymore. The Texas cattlemen determined this libeled their product and took her to court. What she expressed was her opinion. Big ag decided that opinions hurt their bottom line. Numerous other cases show that veggie libel laws have chilling effect on free speech. Have you noticed that certain dairy products contain the following label: “FDA States: No significant difference in milk from cows treated with artificial growth hormone.”? I found that on a diary product in Whole Foods, of all places. Do you know why that label exists? Oakhurst Dairy was given a “Quality Seal” from the state of Maine because it was rBGH free. Monsanto was the corporation which developed the rBGH hormone and they demanded that Maine stop issuing such seals. Maine refused, so Monsanto went after Oakhurst Dairy by suing them, and now, Oakhurst Dairy (Maine’s largest dairy) carries that label.

So much for free choice.

Libertarians like to say “let the market decide”. That is the most simplistic and asinine statement that could be made when there is nothing resembling a free market in big ag. Not only does it reflect general ignorance of the situation, it also demonstrates a general “I don’t give a shit” social Darwinist attitude toward the average person. Libertarians can redeem themselves by supporting GMO labeling, which would go a long way toward dismantling the corporatist grip on the food we eat and untangling the unholy alliance between corporation and government. If it weren’t for the government, companies such as Monsanto would not be engaged in bullying tactics, sucking on the teat of subsidies, and purposefully deceiving consumers by hiding the fact their products contain GMO ingredients.

I hear the chorus of libertarians bleating: “but you can’t use the force of government! It never solves anything!” But what most libertarians do not understand is that this force of government will be used upon itself, not innocent corporations or consumers. If there WAS a free market, there would be no subsidies. There would be no veggie libel laws. there would be no deceiving consumers by hiding the nature of ingredients. Libertarians are against fraud, correct? Then manufacturers who use GMO ingredients are committing fraud against consumers by declaring their product to be “natural”, when there is absolutely nothing “natural” with splicing genetics.

To sum this all up: big ag is committing force and fraud against consumers and taxpayers with the collusion of government. It is absolutely moral and appropriate to use government at the state level against government at the federal level. if small government libertarians wish to be consistent, then they will use GMO labeling laws to protect individuals against the greater force and fraud we face. After all, small government libertarians consent to government existence for the purpose of protecting us from force and fraud. What makes this any different? Nothing.

Hello Hello Hello, is there anybody out there? Has Liberty Finally Died?

After 7 years of being naive and believing in my peers in liberty, I have seen the death of liberty and it’s right in my own playground –that being the place where my friends and I once played at spreading the message of liberty.
Liberty died with Ron Paul.  I’ll say that again –I watched it grow with Ron Paul and I watched it die with Ron Paul.  I know this to be true because all of the people whom I have met in the last 7 years through the Ron Paul Revolution can now be seen dying on a vine like the fungus that my winter squash had this summer.  It looked kind of pretty for awhile and I believed that I would actually be eating squash this winter but what started with a bang ended as death on the vine and I was unsure of whether to blame it on what was falling down from the sky or coming up from the soil.  The fungus of liberty seems to be the internet and where it started out there growing pretty and strong…..it apparently grew a fungus and died.
Who really cares anyway?
I started out in this world of “liberty” at the very front of the gate by immediately starting a Ron Paul meetup on Long Island –it eventually ended in 2012 with a lot of division, anger, and wrath with friends going their separate ways –some went RepubliCan, some went Losertarian and some just went back to the mall.
Through the years I have kept my positive attitude (naivety) believing that I could personally bring Liberty to this country, to my state to my locality by starting up organizations like LibertyCandidates –helping those, like me, who still believed we could work through the system, get some notoriety and run for office believing that perhaps, they too, could get donations like Ron Paul and in no time at all we would have 50 Ron Paul’s in the House and Senate voting NO! to all the bad policies while repealing bad legislation….. but that didn’t work out.  –No one has donated to LibertyCandidates for 4 years except for the few diehard believers like me. And the one guy in the liberty movement who actually had money to back up his beliefs gave it to a candidate by the name of Kerry Bentivolio  who duped liberty by actually gaining the “notoriety” by being the first seated legislator to ever be voted out of Liberty Candidates because in his first few congressional votes he voted for the Monsanto Protection act and to raise the debt ceiling.  I’m still running liberty candidates but it’s sort of turned into a sparkler on the fourth of July rather than a cherry bomb –pun intended, as our main way of collecting donations for those who actually had the balls to step up and run for office are called money bombs.  Bombs away –none of these brave souls stands a chance of ever winning a local seat never mind an actual seat in the house when the most they can garner in donations is a couple of hundred –how is liberty ever going to win that way?  Either Ron Paul made all of his supporters broke or people just stopped actually caring.
I kept my positive attitude when I, along with my friend, Ed Weaver, began Save Long Island because we saw that the meetup we were running, Campaign for Liberty, was another loss on the vine of liberty.  In the years in which we tried to grow the liberty movement in our own back yards we never grew in numbers –and though we had 200 or so members the same 20 always showed up.  We realized we were never getting anywhere except to maybe throw a sign wave on a bitter cold day but other than this…..we were going nowhere fast.  That also was the time of the great divide between those who went “right” and those who went lost -and I say this, not so much to insult the big L Libertarian party –because I have also put my faith and hope into this endeavor as well –dragging my Ron Paul friends into the party –believing we could get candidates to run for office locally and bring liberty to our own backyards –but that can’t happen when you can’t even gather more than 5 to 10 people –and not at any one time either– to collect the gazillion signatures a Libertarian needs in order to get on the ballot –and when one finally does it comes with a lot of bad blood and division within the party itself because of the clash of either egos or, like the saying goes, herding cats gets you nowhere…..  yes, that is what the Libertarian Party means to me at this point –and I put all my faith and hope into this party believing that with my passion I could change things in a party that never really got anywhere on an island that has it’s own two party system betraying itself as happened this past year when the Republicans on Long Island voted for the NY Safe Act infringing on the 2nd Amendment.
The Libertarian Party –especially in NY, has a chance in 2014 to grow and become a guiding beacon of light -they are the only party that stands up for the 2nd Amendment!  But that’s not going to happen when the old guard libertarians who sat around drinking coffee and talking philosophy can’t get along with the new libertarians who came in from the Ron Paul Revolution and instead of  talking philosophy –they are instead spiting one another and it’s more spit and vinegar than actually “getting things done”.  The Libertarians in New York could be getting behind an event like the Save Long Island Forum and letting the world know that they are here to educate the masses about the issues that affect all of us –but instead they revile, ignore and buy no tickets to this event…..  ?
Because of that act of voting for the SAFE ACT by the Republicans I quickly jumped to my usual optimistic and idealistic self and decided I would actually run for office and help to bring truth and light to the people of Long Island by awakening them to the issues affecting all of us –things like the reason why our taxes were so high and we could barely afford to fill our gas tanks and the reason why so many around us were getting sick and why our children were dying (including my own) from our government waking up one day in bed with corporations who were now running our schools and our medicine cabinets and our skies and our electrical currents and our food supply….
So I had this bright idea along with my friend, Edward Weaver, who runs this organization we started called Save Long Island where we showed films about these same issues listed above on a monthly basis at the local library –trying to enlighten people to what we need to face and try to find solutions….. that we would bring in experts on all of these issues affecting us and try and awaken the people of our home, Long Island, to what’s really going on because we know that unless we educate ourselves about these issues, we can’t really fight back.  We figured that this event would be a model for other towns and other cities across the nation –Save ______’s in every state. We had watched in the last year as people were devastated by the super-storm Sandy and we had seen what it could possibly be like if we really needed to survive for long periods of time without food or electricity or heat –and what it was like to come back from disaster, working together as a community.  We figured now was the time to finally come together and take back our counties, our cities our towns, our state and that everyone would  WANT to come on this journey with us!  We would help to educate our neighbors and friends and some of us might even step up and take the bull by the horns and run for office or start leading people and teaching them to be self-sufficient by growing their own gardens or canning or stocking up. By fighting the companies trying to put “smart meters” on our homes without our knowledge. To gather the troops and fight the legislators that were working against us by trying so hard to trample on our constitution and taking away our rights for everything from our freedom of speech to our freedom to bear arms to our freedom to even decide whether our own kids should get vaccines or not!   During this time we watched as groups grew on facebook on Long Island that were starting to wake up to the things we were telling them about for years like Agenda 21 and Common Core Education and Ed and I got excited that if we threw this event that they would all come and bring their family and friends so that we could all work together as a unit of educated, concerned citizens who knew our rights and knew what it would take to retaliate against the crony capitalist and legislators who fought against term limits so they could keep their cushy jobs while they boxed their ears when we had concerns –while pandering to corporations for lobby money and perks….  Yes…Ed and I had this grand idea that we would take our little organization and turn it into a giant extravaganza that would talk about ALL the issues while at the same time bringing about education about economics which we have always known was at the center of this giant mess of a nation since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was born –100 years ago this week.  And here we are throwing this large party to celebrate the fact that we CAN take matters into our own hands and educate ourselves and our families and friends and that by doing this we can come up with solutions and fight back…..  only  it’s all quiet and silent and no one is answering our call.  We’re throwing a party and no one is coming but for a few optimist like us……but the rest?  Our Libertarian friends, our Ron Paul friends, our friends in liberty and freedom……  where are they?
So I have to assume from all of this that liberty is dead.  I had heard that the prices of our tickets were too high –yet we have been selling them for 6 months  ?  So we lowered the prices because we still believe that we are doing the right thing –only we realize that any profit we expected to bring in and hand over to 9/11 first responders was asking too much —  and at half price the silence is deadening still….. and the sadness to the first responders will be even sadder.
We appealed to those who have known of liberty for longer than most to please come and help us to awaken those who are just learning…..  and I hear complaints from people on the left of the middle saying that this event sounds great but the tickets should be free and they plan on boycotting outside of our event because we’re charging money…..  And my answer to that is “If only the hotel wasn’t charging us $13,000 and our speakers weren’t asking for a fee and plane fare and hotel rooms were free— but they are not…..
And to those who really know Ed and I –we’ve never charged a thing or made any money off of what we have done for years and years…..  we do it because we give a damn –but giving a damn is apparently not enough –you need to give your soul to some people.
Yes, Edward Weaver and I are doing this because we care.  Alexa Dunetz who came on board with us is doing this because she believes.  A few who began with us in the beginning weren’t as naive and didn’t believe that this event could happen so they stepped off this train wreck.  But we still believed and we followed through…. and here we are three weeks away and we have barely sold enough tickets to fill the South Huntington Library, never mind a room that can fit up to 10 times that amount.  Here we are three weeks away and people are still putting this off until tomorrow as if that is possible for us when we have speakers to fly in from far off places to speak to you about what they have known and what they wish to share and how we can come together to find solutions….
But apparently liberty is dead with the very people I began this journey with –those from surrounding states like New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, Massachusetts, DC and of all places, New Hampshire -where those “enlightened” have begun the “Free State Project” hoping that 20,000 will follow them to their land of the free…..yet not one ticket sold to one of them to come to a place where people are paying the highest taxes in this country, who have just been devastated by a storm and who are finding out slowly but surely that their flood insurance might jump fivefold might actually like to find out about a place where there is some hope….. nope, none of those people have bought a ticket….  None of the people from the places I’ve traveled to with my husband for the past 7 years to help them to spread the message of liberty with everything from Ending the Fed to LoveFests and FreedomFests and Paloozas have bought a ticket….. none.
But liberty is not just dead on Long Island…..it is apparently dead in the midwest and in Alabama and in NYC and in all of the places where other liberty events have died on the vine —  liberty died at Paulfest last August when the liberty movement divided between the grassroots and the RepubliCans which we found printed on a T-Shirt washed of it’s liberty….
So why am I still here believing? Running for Office?  Running an event that no one is buying tickets to??
Honestly, I do not know……  If people can’t buy tickets to an event to learn what’s affecting their children and family —their neighborhoods and bank accounts and why so many people have cancer or are suffering from allergies or sick from medication or why their kids are being tortured in their schools day after day…. but can instead spend it on the new XBox or a few White Russians or a burger and fries and a beer –or pay $50  for a night out at the movies supporting stars they revile all day on facebook  yet find that same price too high to listen to 20 speakers on 20 issues that will give them the knowledge to fight back for their own children??
No, wait, I do know why I’m still here….because I give a damn.  But are we it? Are Ed and Alexa and I the last three people we know who will sacrifice thousands of hours planning an event to bring awareness to the masses while between the three of us we are still trying to earn a living, go to law school and run for office all the while running organizations to help other’s do the same?  Ed is also the Chair of the Suffolk County Libertarian Party and I am a Vice Chair to the NY State Libertarian Party and run an organization that vets people to run for office on a platform of liberty.  I’m starting to wonder if we are the last few people who actually are so naive we believed our friends and our family in liberty would come together to open their arms to a whole new crop of people that are just becoming aware themselves —because YES FOLKS…the few who have actually bought tickets are NEW PEOPLE who actually want to learn!
So what happened to our friends in Liberty? They’re divided, fighting, hating, condemning, judging and blocking.  People who once inspired and who even won liberty inspiration awards are turning into angry egotist.  Those who have entertained and sang of freedom and liberty are having a hard time finding places where people can hear them because liberty events are dying all over.  So is it all over?  Should we bother anymore?  Should we just hang up our liberty T-shirts on a hook and never look back and just accept what’s thrown at us?  Should I bother running for office? If people can’t pay $60 bucks to go to an event I’m throwing to awaken them to the issues that affect us are they going to donate to my campaign so that I can awaken them to the issues that affect us?  Will they instead just go into the voting booths and vote party line once again after all of their complaining about the state of our nation?

Is anyone going to buy a ticket to listen to Charlotte Iserbyt talk to us about Common Core Education and what we should do to solve this massive problem or G. Edward Griffin tell us about Agenda 21 and what we can do to stop this infringement on our personal property rights?  Is it too much trouble to be in a room and listen to men speak of our monetary policy and where we should go? Does anyone care any longer about how we can help our children stay off of anti-depressants or how we can cure cancer ourselves?  Does anyone want to know what’s actually in our water and in our food and in our skies and how we can fight back from what’s being fed to our families?

hello hello hello is there anybody out there? Ed and I are seriously considering walking away from everything at this point.  Do we bother?  Is there any hope?  We can’t back out of this event now because we have contracted to have it so we will probably end up being $30,000 in debt instead of helping our fellowman to become enlightened and fight back….Won’t you please think about continuing to spread the message of liberty and sharing your knowledge with some of those who aren’t yet where you might be?www.savelongislandforum.com

Where is the Anger? NY “Safe” Act

100_7196

I want to know where is the anger on Long Island towards the legislators who voted for this? Where is a call for the legislators to explain themselves? Why are the people on Long Island who are involved in the Republican party still asking for donations and having fundraisers and patting each other on the back? When will the people of Long Island who call themselves Republicans and Conservatives STOP BEATING A DEAD HORSE? What will they do, slap their local Senator and Assemblyman on the wrist and say “bad”. I’m sorry but HOLD THESE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE! Lets face it –there are more people in their districts who are against guns (for lack of education) than for them –so giving away our 2nd Amendment even though YOU HELPED THEM GET INTO OFFICE– is not as important as KEEPING THAT JOB and to do that they pandered to the highest count of voters and it wasn’t YOU!

They are traitors and no one is saying a thing….. Well, I’m saying something –I’m running for office now because I’m MAD!

LONG ISLAND, NY, January 23, 2013 ― The rallying cry of the Ron Paul Revolution has been a call to action for some of the most sincere and idealistic people from all across the United States. Many of them have no prior experience in politics but feel a heartfelt mission to make a difference in a world needing desperate change. One such woman is Gigi Bowman, founder of the Liberty Candidates organization which helps unite libertarian minded people of all parties to get their message out and win elections.

Since founding Liberty Candidates in 2009, Bowman’s organization has fielded hundreds of candidates and given their message a national forum to be heard and recognized.

Bowman, who is one of the Ron Paul movement’s most dedicated organizers, entered politics following the tragic loss of her daughter in 2003 to prescription medication. She has been a dynamic advocate for such controversial topics as pharmaceutical reform, GMO labeling and many other issues that candidates and parties are too timid to challenge. Taking her advocacy to the next level, Bowman announced last week her intention to run for office, seeking the New York State Senate seat for District 5.

Gentle yet every bit a courageous mother figure, Bowman wrote in an announcement e-mail to supporters, “I have watched as the loss of liberty has become more and more apparent … I am stepping up today to run for office because I cannot sit back and watch any longer as our beautiful country and the freedoms and liberties that our founders fought so hard for are diminished daily by political parties and administrations that are working against the people, not for the people. While we are struggling to afford what we hope are fresh, healthy food for our children, our legislators spend their days doing photo-ops, ribbon cuttings and running photo contests about our environment instead of educating us about what is happening to our community – most likely they don’t even know themselves!”

I sought out Gigi Bowman for an interview to discuss what her take was on President Obama’s new term and how national politics would affect her candidacy and state policy.

The 2012 Liberty Inspiration Awards Announced!

Liberty Inspiration Award of 2012

For the third anniversary of Liberty Candidates.com we have decided to honor all
of those who have inspired the liberty movement through the voices of the many.
This organization has always been about inspiration for motivation –we hand the
torch over to those who were inspired by Ron Paul to spread his message in the
political arena– and today we have given the torch to our brothers and sisters in
liberty so that they may shine the light on those who have been there to motivate
them.

It’s called “giving back”

It’s been a very humbling experience to receive these letters and to read each one.
There are so many people out there who have been a part of this growing
movement and we may not have known all these names before but we will always
remember them now as the list grows day by day.

Remember –we are all in this together and this just proves it.

~

We have received 540 letters with nominations for 175 separate people. Wow!
Each and every letter has been printed whether it was one line or a chapter in the
life of someone’s personal history.
We have listed all the honorable mentions in
alphabetical order and kept the top 5 nominees for the end.
Everyone who
received a letter is a winner and everyone who took the time to write a letter was a
winner as well.
In some cases the praise was anonymous and in some cases there
was no signature so we could not publish the name of who gave the praise.
Thank you for partaking in this wonderful experience. May 2013 bring equal if not
more inspiration to a growing movement of love, liberty and freedom.

2012 Liberty Inspiration Award Sponsored by Libertycandidates.com

In honor of our 3rd Anniversary we are introducing the Liberty Inspiration Award.

“This is an award that will be given yearly to 5 people who showed positive effort and energy throughout the year in spreading the message of liberty. They did not have to run for office, but they did have to inspire others to step up, do something that helped to bring people together, or enlighten others by growing the liberty movement in some manner by taking on a leadership role of some sort or by creating a new platform for inspiration — whether it be media, news, music, or just speaking out in some way that may have brought about positive change.

Rules: Please email your nominations to hello@libertycandidates.com. Express why you think they should receive this award. Each person can choose up to 3 people. The comments will be listed with the winning names (anonymously if you wish; just tell me so). We will also list all Honorable Mentions and their letters as well.  This is not about winning –this is about honoring those who inspired you!

Please send all submissions to the email hello@libertycandidates.com; only these will be counted, not submissions listed on this event page or anywhere else.”  Also, I do not accept “form letters” that you write up and send to all your friends to nominate you so refrain from doing this. Each individually letter will be counted. Form letters will be counted once –so don’t bother!

The winners will be announced on January 1st 2013. Their names will be listed on the www.libertycandidates.com websites for a full year as “inspiring leaders of 2012. Submissions can be sent beginning 11/29/12 and will continue through December 30th 2012.

The award will go to the Top 5 vote-getters.

Liberty Candidate Wraps Up His Campaign in a Great Letter

Hi all,

This is Rob Lombardo. I wanted to send out my thoughts wrapping up the 2012 campaign and looking toward the future. I’ve copied additional friends who may not be on the Libertarian Activists mailing list, but who are also lovers of liberty (FYI, those of you not on the list will not be able to reply to it but you can certainly respond to me if you would like). Forgive the length. I don’t go on like this a lot, so indulge me this once:

I’d like to begin by telling a quick story from the ol’ campaign trail:

After it became likely that the Libertarian Party would not gain ballot access for the 5th Congressional District race, I was encouraged to seek out the Independent Party nomination since they had the slot available. The chances seemed slim, as it was suspected that they would simply nominate the Republican, Andrew Roraback and their first order of business was to nominate the very anti-Liberty Rocky Anderson for President.

I saw an opening though. As Rocky Anderson gave a lengthy acceptance speech, rife with altruistic and utopian nonsense of a nanny-state government, he railed against the 2-party duopoly. This particular issue resonated, understandably and appropriately, with the Independent Party delegates. So I quickly tweaked my prepared remarks to bring in allusions to the 2-party duopoly as I tied in the Independent Party’s local successes to my strong support for federalism. Not to toot my own horn, but my speech was awesome, and I left the stage to a resounding applause. Senator Roraback followed with a dry oration with little, if any, substance. It was no more than a rambling “pretty please”. After the speeches, I actually thought I was in! But where things got all Twightlight-Zoney was when one delegate, a man who described himself as “libertarian” and who I chatted with beforehand with many agreements, actually forwarded the motion to nominate Senator Roraback! A delegate eventually moved to nominate me, amid the chairman’s repeated calls for “any other nominations”. It seemed like the delegate simply nominated me out of mercy to spare me the embarrassment of having no support at all. When the votes were tallied I was soundly defeated 15-3.

I couldn’t believe it! After my great speech and after all the ranting against the 2-party duopoly, the so-called Independent Party nominated a member of that very same system they jeered. The “libertarian” delegate found me afterwards and said that he just felt Senator Roraback’s name-recognition would “bring more attention to their party and help them keep ballot access”.

The reason I am telling this story is that, being the candidate, I had to smile and nod politely and be gracious in defeat. I couldn’t give this guy the figurative smack in the head he desperately needs. What’s the point of having ballot access if you repeatedly nominate another major party candidate, as the Independent Party did all across the state this year, and has done quite often in past elections as well? How does it help to break the 2-party duopoly if you prevent outside candidates from getting in the race? These questions drove me crazy and probably turned my face blood-red as he was explaining his pathetic excuse. But, I had to smile and nod, thank him for his consideration, and wish them all well.

What I really could have used, not so much after the fact, but circulating beforehand, was supporters. Supporters who, unlike the candidate, can get down and dirty in caucuses and mingling groups and point out how nonsensical some voters are behaving… even ones that describe themselves as libertarians! The candidate can’t be the bad cop. Think of the soon-to-be unemployed Congressman Joe Walsh of IL.

We have got to get more people involved to not only be candidates but to be these supporters too… get in the game! And these people have to come primarily from those receiving this email. There are spectators; there are cheerleaders; and there are those actually on the field. We do need more candidates, but if that is not your cup of tea, that is OK, just get out there. The sign-waving, the ‘Facebooking’, and donating money are things that I would call cheerleading. And that is not to diminish any of those things. We need them to continue and they are greatly appreciated. If they are honestly all you have time or ability to do, then by all means keep it up and we will be grateful. But if you can, and I have to believe there are more, GET IN THE GAME. Run for office or help out in the campaigns of those of us who are doing so.

I share Dan Reale’s frustration. The enthusiasm that some of us show when we are comfortably behind a keyboard can be multiplied if it is shown out there in the field. I am deeply indebted to the few who actually got out and helped me petition. But honestly, I had hopes of a lot more and was pretty disappointed with the actual “boots on the ground” support I received; with all the energy around Ron Paul, and the 5th district supposedly being Ron Paul’s best in the Constitution State, and me being 99% in line with Ron Paul. What happened? To get me on the ballot we ended up frantically draining our coffers to pay a collection of knucklehead mercenaries whom I wouldn’t trust to watch a sandwich… and we botched the filing anyway! It ended up being essential to get our senate and presidential candidates on the ballot but I find little comfort in that given the time I put in myself.

We need these boots on the ground. We need people engaged. Yes, we need your money too, but help us to put it to good use! If we have more candidates, then where offices/districts overlap we can piggyback off one another. If we have more supporters physically out there they can confront people like the “libertarian” from the Independent Party and push a little harder without creating a Joe-Walsh-YouTube-moment (well, don’t get that obnoxious either way).

And we most certainly need to start early. Given this year’s experience in petitioning; learning what to expect and how to identify locations, I am convinced that had I begun in May, I would have easily reached the target. Had I begun in March, I could have done it entirely on my own. I can recall days with good weather at the right place and the right time I was pulling in 20 seemingly good signatures per hour.

We need to plan, and with the added challenges of ballot access and being the severe underdog in any race, we must do it well in advance of the Republicrats. We need “ground games” and that is why we need more people engaged. A team of people can have a ground game. One person by themselves can only have an illusion and a hell of a lot of stress.

Personally I would really like to hear from people on this mailing who can pledge to actually get involved, beyond cheerleading. Even though we don’t know who is doing what yet, we have to know who will be on the field because before you know it, it will be time to get moving again.

Now as far as what to do: All of the above. There are some who believe we need to grow the Libertarian Party, and some who believe we change the Republican Party from within. Some think we should focus on low level offices and build slowly, and some think we need to go for federal office. Some think we can change trajectory before a massive collapse, and some think we need to just prepare. While it would certainly be beneficial to all be unified and working on the same page, that is just not realistic. So instead of debating what is better or what is worse, what will work and what won’t, while precious time slips by, we ought to accept that there will be differences of opinion and as long as our goal is liberty we ought to support one another. Maybe I think the changing the Republican Party is a waste of time, but if someone here is working on a town committee and pushing for a Republican Liberty candidate, I should still help out if I can. Maybe I think seeking federal offices are better for attacking the roots of the problems, but I should still help out state and municipal candidates. Maybe I think we have time to stop the impending disaster, but I should still support any related prepper initiatives. Let’s not bring each other down and waste time arguing about it.

So anyway, assuming certain things, such as me still living here, I still have my eye on the 5th District again for ‘14, and I am considering Brookfield’s Board of Selectmen for ’13. Who’s going to be on the field with me? What are you going to do? Even if it is a smaller project, a Board of Ed campaign, anything at all… if I can reasonably be of assistance, then count me in! But let’s hear about it!

In Liberty, For Liberty,

Robbo

Ron Paul sends a personal message of appreciation

“Golden State” and others join the show

Tampa, FL. – On Thursday, July 26th, Paul Festival announced new additions to an already impressive lineup that includes keynote speaker Peter Schiff, Lew Rockwell, Gov. Gary Johnson, and Chuck Baldwin.  The new additions include:

  • Country and Western Sensations, “Burns & Poe
  • Liberty Band: “Golden State
  • The Winners of the Paul Festival Video Promo Contest : “Corrected Axiom”
  • YouTube Sensation, “The Minister of Truth and the Axis Experience
  • Atlanta Georgia’s own: “The Industry

They join the music sensation The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Ron Keel, Jordan Page, Tatiana Moroz, Rebel Inc and Circle II Circle, among others.  A full list of speakers and performers are available on their website at http://www.PaulFestival.org.

Organizers have been busy putting together what could potentially be the greatest gathering of the Liberty movement to date.  They were pleasantly surprised by an encouraging note from the founder of the movement, Presidential contender Ron Paul himself — whose recent legislative victory in the House saw bi-partisan support to audit the Federal Reserve.

“The organizers of Paul Fest have been very helpful in working with my staff to avoid scheduling conflicts with our rally on Sunday, and I am very appreciative of the flexibility they’ve shown and the enthusiasm with which they’ve embraced our plans. I am confident that the hard work by the Paul Fest organizers will result in a great time for all those attending their event.” stated the Congressman.

As a special promotion, organizers are holding a ticket raffle and prize give-a-way.  Prizes include a Skype-date with the sultry sensation Tatiana Moroz, tickets to LibertyFest NYC, the premier of Atlas Shrugged and many more.  Anyone who buys a ticket or a Ronvoy package between now and Aug. 8th are entered into our drawing.  For more information please visit: http://www.paulfestival.org/77-general-information/253-paulfestival-ticket-raffle-and-prize-give-a-way

The confluence of events taking place in Tampa are shaping up to be quite a spectacle.  Besides the official RNC eventsPaul Festival, theRally at the Sundome, the Veterans’ MarchCamp Liberty, not to mention the Ronvoy parade through Tampa, this August is sure to be an historical time for the Liberty movement, which is the proving itself as the fastest growing political movement in recent history.

Liberty Candidate, Senator Randi Shannon, Resigns from Office

From: The Office of the Senator of the Republic of the United States of America,

And The Republic for Iowa, Senator Randi Shannon

Hello everyone, my name is Randi Shannon, and I have been honored to be Iowa’s Republican Candidate for The Office of State Senator in District 34.  The support I have received from so many in this district has been just incredible! I will never forget your commitment to my campaign!

I want to especially thank my fellow Ron Paul for President Supporters, My Fellow Members of Liberty, My Friends who home school as did I, the many Pro-Life Members who have been so supportive of my candidacy over these past few months, and of course all my supporters in the Republican Party who have offered me so much help and encouragement, including many Republican Office holders here in Iowa, I promise you, your efforts on My behalf will be remembered.

Let me now announce to everyone in Iowa, I have become aware of the existence of the Original Republic for The United States of America.“We the People” re-inhabited our lawful de jure (de jur- “by right of lawful establishment”) government on March 30th, 2010.  This is The Republic founded in 1787 and then abandoned during The Civil War in the 1860s.

It was then replaced in 1871 by the UNITED STATES CORPORATION. (de facto-without law). This Unlawful Corporate Democracy, established by the forty-first congress, has been acting as though it is the “official government” which clearly it is not! In point of fact, it is the reason why “We the People” Instead of Experiencing Freedom and Prosperity, suffer under the weight of Oppressive Statutes and an Out of Control, Monstrous National Debt which is Robbing Us and All Future Generations of Americans of Our Treasure and Our Legacy for which Our Founding Fathers’ so Valiantly Fought and Died.

And Remember This! Where the de jure Republic of The United States of America exists the de facto UNITED STATES CORPORATION, having no standing, must go away!

Now, knowing this, and with the best interests of The People of Iowa District 34 uppermost in my heart and out of respect for my own conscience, I am here to announce that I am ending my campaign as of this July 4th, 2012.  Trust me this story does not end here nor does my commitment. In fact, my level of service to the good people of Iowa who have been so supportive of me and my campaign will be greatly increased.  Please allow me to continue, because I have some great news to share with all of you!

I have learned from my participation in campaigns that no matter who we elect, there’s no positive change.  The same talking points are used; “lower taxes, education reform, we need to end BIG GOVERNMENT PORK etc”.  We cast our votes, and for the most part, we are no better off. Our taxes go up and while we are losing our liberties in the name of security, our country becomes more divided.  New executive orders are issued, BIG GOVERNMENT INTRUSION into our private lives is on the rise and the Peoples’ despair grows and deepens. What Hope is there for any solutions from THE UNITED STATES CORPORATION?

In fact, that which happens is all too often nothing like what’s been promised. I know you feel very disaffected as I’ve heard this from so many of you with whom I’ve visited with these past several months.

I want you to know I feel the same! Unfortunately despair is rampant in our country today and with good reason!

Over the past several decades the quality of life for The People of Iowa has been eroding. Our individual earnings have dropped, we have skyrocketing inflation,  our public education system is a disaster, and THIS BLOATED GOVERNMENT we cannot afford just keeps on growing.

American Entrepreneurism is all but dead. If the needs of “We the People” were being properly addressed,

THE UNITED STATES CORPORATION would have brought about changes that would have led to a vast and growing economy with prosperity for all who want it.  Therefore, The American Dream in Iowa and all over this country would be alive and well and Our Succeeding Generations would truly be better off as a result.

Instead, ours is an economically weak nation with the dollar on the very brink of collapse! We now find corruption at virtually every level of government and hardly ever is anyone made to answer for it.  Just like Eric Holder, they refuse to answer and often as not they are rewarded. Where’s the law? and Public Accountability?

This Corrupt System is just like an out of control freight train heading at full speed toward the river where the bridge has been washed out by a flood brought on by their own acts in violation of the Public Trust,  and their Oaths to The Constitution of Iowa and The Republic of The United States of America.

Remember, THE UNITED STATES CORPORATION was changed from The Republic, and since then, we have seen a plethora of Statutes passed as if they were Law without the consent of “We the People”. With the abandonment of The Republic, and especially following 1871, the abuses of the UNITED STATES CORPORATION heaped upon the American People and the Peoples of the International Community have been inestimable and unconscionable.  In this, I cannot and  will not have a share!

From the President on down, many of these so-called servants of the The People have repeatedly violated their oaths of Office, their fiduciary responsibilities, and in every way imaginable they’ve committed the most

egregious acts against “We the People” of the United States of America and People around the world. They have continually violated the People’s Trust. Be fooled no longer, that Trust is broken beyond repair!

Therefore, in order to affect the most good on behalf of The People of Iowa’s 34th District and in keeping with my conscience, I have accepted the position of U.S. Senator in The Republic of The United States of America, where I may better serve You and All of The People of Iowa.  I want you to know I have taken an Oath to Uphold, Support and Defend The Constitution of The United States of America.   This I will do to the best of my ability, So Help Me God.

As Your Senator from Iowa in The Republic of The United States of America I will be especially focused on the following areas:

[First] As someone who home schooled my kids has been Committed to and Achieved Educational Excellence for my own family, I whole heartedly support and will work with my Colleagues in The Republic Congress who plan to eliminate the Department of Education when it transfers to The Republic from THE BANKRUPT UNITED STATES CORPORATION.  Educational Excellence first and foremost is the result of personal commitment; first by parents, and then by the students themselves. We don’t need to spend more on education to achieve better results; just note how the opposite has proven to be true. Point of Fact, Home Schooling, which costs taxpayers nothing, often accomplishes the best result!

However, not everyone can or may want to make this choice for their family and may see advantages to Community, Private, Charter, Internet and/or Televised School systems.  If we are truly dedicated in our quest for Educational Excellence, then we need free market competition in the area of education, and we need to leave it to families and their students in Iowa and in Our Republic to make the choices that best serve them and meet their needs. This reflects my commitment to you, and on this I will not waver!

[Second] I am absolutely committed to our men and women in uniform who serve our country, and for them that means “No More Undeclared Wars”!  Their Blood is Too Precious to be spilled needlessly in far away countries where there is no threat to Our Republic.  The Lives of our service men and women are of

Such Exceeding Value as not be lost or even put at risk for the enrichment of those who profit as a result of war and so called Nation Building-Police Actions.  As your Senator in The Republic of The United States of America, I will never vote for or in any other way support such actions! I am Bound by My Oath to The Constitution of Republic of The United States of America which places limits upon me, while I serve in office, and I appreciate these limits as lawful and necessary in the performance of my duty to The People of Iowa.  I want you to know, I Take My Oath Very Seriously!

[Third] As Your Senator in The Republic of United States of America, Our Unalienable Rights Shall be protected, and First Among These “Life” shall be protected from the “Moment of Conception On”.  I refer everyone to “The Republic for Iowa-Life Affirming Proclamation” a copy of which I can provide by email. This Proclamation has My Endorsement and My Vote!

[Forth] Every concern which The People of Iowa have regarding GOVERNMENTAL ABUSE, such as the high cost and unconstitutionality of Obama-care and current healthcare costs, the invasive, insufferable acts committed by the TSAs  at Airports, Taxation at Obscene levels, and the list goes on and on, are all problems brought on by The “de facto” UNITED STATES CORPORATION.

By serving as your Senator in The Republic Congress, I am restrained to voting in line with Our Republic for The United States Constitution, which by the way does not contain the 14th Amendment or any thereafter as these are the product of “The De facto” UNITED STATES CORPORATION, and have no basis in Our Constitution. Therefore, “they are Their Problems” and when you join The Republic of The United States of America, they are no longer your problems! And as your Senator, I Proclaim here today that I am determined that “Their Problems” will never again become your problems in The Republic!

Again, Remember, where the de jure Republic of The United States of America exists the de facto UNITED STATES CORPORATION, having no standing, must go away!

I want you to know how very much I look forward to serving you and all of The People of Iowa as your United States Senator in The Republic of The United States of America, which truly is One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All!

For those of you having difficulty understanding the reasons for my decision, I want to refer you to the websites <republicfortheunitedstates.org> and <republiccongress.org>.

I thank you so very much for your thoughtful attention! And I look forward to addressing your concerns in Our Republic of The United States Congress!

In Faithful Service to The People of Iowa,

United States Senator, Randi Shannon

Why Big Business Candidates Usually Become Big Government Politicians

By Liberty Candidate 2011,

Daniel de Gracia

HAWAII, May 31, 2012 — As congressional candidates square off in primaries across America, one of the most frequently invoked justifications for choosing one party personality over another is “business experience.” We’ve all heard the campaign tagline a million times: “So-and-so’s years of experience in business will help turn around our government and put our nation back on track.” But does experience running a company really make a candidate more qualified for office?

Thinking Carefully About Policy and Profits

In the early days of the Republic, America was a sparsely populated, largely agrarian nation. Legislators often served short careers in office and usually introduced inchoate laws – that is, bills they expected to pass on an as-needed basis. Congressional workload was light to moderate, with most legislators using family members as staff and the topics which came before committees were ones which could be resolved with minimal technical experience.

Today, Congress is a vastly different institution from its origins. Immense expertise on a dizzying array of matters is in high demand as Congress insists on legislating increasingly complex matters ranging from domestic economics to international affairs to even advanced scientific research.

The rise of the “2,000-page bill” introductions along with an already confusing myriad of existing laws, regulations, agency traditions and licensing regimes often force legislators to depend on lobbyists and expert staff members to know what needs to be done. Amidst this chaotic environment, it is argued that a candidate with prior business experience will be the best to handle the so-called “gridlock” of Washington and serve America.

The problem, however, with candidates with business backgrounds – especially those with big business experience – is that running a company well is not the same thing as running a government. In a business, profit-seeking is the core of any successful company. While a company that expands its production and increases its profits may be extremely popular among shareholders, a government that increases its tax revenues and upgrades its operations using “business methods” is essentially becoming better at stealing from taxpayers and more efficient at bossing people around.

As the ancient Greek author Thucydides famously warned in History of the Peloponnesian War, “as the power of Hellas grew, and the acquisition of wealth became more an object, the revenues of the states increasing, tyrannies were by their means established almost everywhere.” Said another way: Want government to help you and your friends get rich? Then use government to rig the market!

Consider this: In a total free market absent any government, no taxes exist; therefore, where revenues minus costs equal profits, money made by businesses goes to paying wages (purchase of labor) and investing in more business (purchase of capital).

Since a free market also has no government-controlled central bank to artificially dilate or contract the money supply through interest rates, the amount of money in the market is relatively stable and combined with increasing efficiency of production, the more “free” a market is, the cheaper products get and ultimately, profits fall.

Liberty Candidates in Bloomberg Business Week! “Ron Paul’s Torchbearers”

Liberty Candidates have made it into the big time!  Elizabeth Dworkin of Bloomberg/Businessweek has written a story including many of our liberty candidates like Karen Kwaitkowski, Tisha Casida, Calen Fretts and more!  Gigi Bowman met up with the author and some of our Liberty Candidates during Philly Phreedom, the Ron Paul Rally on April 22.  In the middle of a storm Elizabeth Dworkin might have found more Liberty than she’d imagined 4,500 people with umbrella’s in the rain to hear the Presidential Candidate who has brought so much inspiration to all the liberty Candidates 🙂

Ron Paul’s Torchbearers

By  on April 26, 2012

Karen Kwiatkowski, a Republican candidate for Congress in Virginia, rarely passes up an opportunity to scold Washington politicians about runaway defense spending, which she says is an egregious waste of taxpayer dollars that does little to make Americans safer. Halfway across the country, Tisha Casida, a Colorado Independent, says she’ll push to end the drug war and legalize marijuana if she’s elected to the House. In Florida, Calen Fretts, a Libertarian seeking to unseat a veteran Republican congressman, promises that if he’s elected he’ll begin working to abolish the U.S. Federal Reserve. “As people increase the size and scope of government,” Fretts says, “there’s got to be a few of us to resist it.”

These candidates have two things in common: All are long shots seeking office for the first time. And all were inspired to run by the same man—Ron Paul.

After 12 terms in the House, Paul, who is 76, says he’ll retire at year’s end. Though he gamely insists he can still defeat Mitt Romney and capture the Republican nomination, his presidential runs have always been about forcing other candidates, and the public, to pay attention to his libertarian arguments for eliminating most taxes, closing federal agencies, bringing U.S. troops home from overseas, legalizing drugs, outlawing official secrecy, dismantling the Fed, returning to the gold standard, and generally getting the government to get out of the way.

If forcing his don’t-tread-on-me, minimalist philosophy into the mainstream is the benchmark, Paul can claim victory and return to Texas a happy man. The professional political class may ridicule him as an eccentric kook leading a cantankerous army of potheads who invade chat rooms with ALLCAPS rants about government overreach. (And no doubt there’s something to that—the most worshipful Paul evangelists can be hard to stomach.) But listening to his rivals in the GOP debates demand that the Fed be audited and the Departments of Energy and Education be shuttered, it’s clear that many of Paul’s positions, once considered extreme, are now routine Republican talking points—and that his influence over conservative politics greatly outweighs his low poll rankings and back-of-the-pack primary returns. “I believe our time has come,” says Paul, who quickly tempers this uncharacteristic display of optimism. “It’s still going to be a knock-down dragged-out fight.”
