Taking a Break from Saving the World –My Inner Martha Stewart returned.

I thought I’d take a break from politics –remember? Well, my break includes working on the “Liberty” Documentary and co-organizing Libertyfest NYC 6.  I have been staying away from trying to save my community or the “state” of legislature anywhere in this country (I’m not sure I care anymore John Bush 🙂  –I have instead been painting furniture and cooking organic and setting people up to purchase gold.

11029482_10152642265456415_6809624458582984032_n

I have my heirloom seeds budding in the window sill and I’ve stenciled some flower pots while awaiting my full grown organic/non-gmo herbs to arrive so I can keep my grass-fed beef stews in good flavor.  Going through my old furniture and freshening it up –lo and behold my inner Martha Stewart has arrived!

IMG_5124

People keep emailing me and telling me all the things I should be doing and should be involved in but I sort of wish that people would just take the initiative themselves sometimes and realize that I’m kind of tired.  It’s time for other things right now.  Time to slow down and let someone else take the liberty reigns.  Obviously I haven’t stopped caring about liberty and freedom and trying to spread the message or I wouldn’t be involved in liberty events and I still am….I just can’t deal anymore with party politics and people saying “it’s time for us to run candidates for local office…” because I tried that and mostly people are just full of shit. What’s the point in running candidates when no one at these coffee klatch meetings actually really does anything when someone finally does step up to run –then they actually have to stop master-debating and lifting their arm to fill their pie-hole with beer.   I know I sound cynical and It’s because I am!  After you’ve gone about as far as you can go and realize that people rather sit in a room on a sunny day and fight about by-laws then actually go outside to get the job done…… I mean, how many times do you have to be hit in the head with the same brick before  you come to the final conclusion that you have wasted enough time doing the same thing over and over again….knowing the results will be the same few people doing all the work.

abcde

So we’re getting ready for spring at our house and skipping a lot of meetings we previously attended because I believed that rallying up the troops was going to bring us more liberty.  Honestly, I don’t have anymore answers to anything.  Just LIVE free as much as you can.  Live each day to it’s fullest. Get your seeds in order.  Get some sunshine….. and play some poker with your old friends and revisit your Inner Martha Stewart 🙂

Don’t Throw Out That Sour Raw Milk! — And Why You Should Be Drinking Raw Milk Instead of Dead Food

What do you do when your milk goes sour? You throw it out!  It’s awful, it smells and it’s enough to make you barf if you accidentally pour it into your coffee. “Pasteurized milk is dead food –there are no enzymes or probiotics present and the only thing you can do with it is throw it out.” says Sarah, the Healthy Home Economist.  But what do you do when raw milk goes sour?

800px-Latte_025

First of all, in most states raw milk is illegal, go figure. That is how the government seems to work –the good things are illegal and the foods that poison us are available in abundance.  I live in New York where raw milk is not illegal, though I must get it directly from the dairy farmer (this is about the only thing good about living in New York, lol) so I am lucky to have the choice of drinking raw milk. When raw milk goes sour, or clabbered, it is safe to drink. It is also nutritious because it is loaded with enzymes and probiotics.  When raw milk starts to sour, it simply means that beneficial bacteria called probiotics have started to use up the lactose (milk sugar) which causes the milk to no longer taste sweet.  Go ahead….drink it if you like but the list of creations you can make from soured raw milk is endless from kefir to yogurt to baking biscuits! –today I made quiche.

Since my house is already an organic/GMO free household I had a lot of the ingredients I needed hanging around in the cupboard when I noticed my milk had soured so quiche was the best choice for what to do with my chunky, gross looking, sour raw milk.  I probably could have taken the time to whip up a nice crust but I just didn’t want to.  It’s New Year’s day today and I didn’t think any stores would be open but when my husband and I took a drive around town to pick up a few things I saw that Wild By Nature was open and I was able to pick up an organic Wholley Wholesome pie crust, 2 for $4.50, which is pretty reasonable, and a bag each of organic spinach and organic broccoli rabe.  I like to use frozen spinach when making quiche because it makes my life easier –did you ever notice HOW MUCH fresh spinach you need to cook in order to equal a 10 oz. bag of frozen spinach?  Hey, I love to cook as organic and clean as possible but I also try to cut cost whenever possible –certain frozen organic vegetables, like spinach, are worth using. So with what I had hanging around the house, including my two cups of curdled milk, I managed to whip up a broccoli rabe and cheddar quiche and a spinach, mushroom and bacon quiche.

These ingredients are what I had in my house –you can make a quiche with whatever you find in yours. The bottom line is you need 4 eggs, a cup of cheese and a cup of sour milk –or you can use regular milk if you like as well but the purpose of this article was what to do with that awful looking raw milk in the fridge with all the nutrients and I would NOT recommend using sour pasteurized milk –throw that out in the garbage where it belongs!

Spinach, Mushroom & Bacon Quiche

Pie Crust (homemade or store bought if desired)

1 bag of organic frozen spinach 10oz or an equal amount of fresh if you are able to)

4 large mushrooms, sliced and sautéed in a little olive oil with garlic, green onions, and shallots

3 slices of bacon cooked and minced

1 cup of raw white cheddar cheese (use whatever cheese you can find in your fridge)

1/3 cup of Parmesan cheese

4 soy free organic eggs (this is my choice but regular eggs will do too)

1 cup of curdled raw milk

Sea salt and crushed black pepper

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees then place the pie crust in the oven to bake for 10 minutes.  Make sure to poke some holes in the bottom of that crust so that it won’t rise in the center and explode.

Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees.  After letting the pie crust cool a bit place the spinach (thawed and well drained) on the bottom of the pie crust. On top of the spinach layer the sliced mushrooms that have been sautéed in a little olive oil with the garlic, shallots and green onion. Next layer the freshly cooked and still warm bacon bits.  Lastly, layer the cup of cheese on top making sure to spread everything evenly on the bottom of the pie crust.  Then slowly pour in the 4 eggs and curdled milk that you previously whisked together. Pour it slowly and let it be absorbed by the mixture in the pie crust little by little. Sprinkle the top with some more Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper and place in oven to cook for 45 to 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean and it is nicely browned on top.

IMG_4475

I made two quiches because I had two cups of curdled raw milk.  The other one had broccoli and cheddar –there were less ingredients but the broccoli took up a lot more space than the spinach.  I managed to use every drop of the egg/milk mixture in each quiche.  I was careful and there was no spillover in the oven!

Anyway, this will last in my fridge a few days and everyone will be able to grab a healthy organic lunch or snack that is filled with nutrients from curdled milk that ordinarily would have been poured down a drain.  That would have been sinful. Now I have a sinful duo of tasty quiche instead!!

NY Republicans vs. Gigi Bowman –Mother, Activist and Citizen

abcdef
You might know me.  You might have seen me this summer standing in front of Supermarkets with my loving husband asking for your signature to get on the ballot.  You may have seen me at every festival from Northport to Glen Cove. You may have seen me at the farmers markets handing out “Save the Bee” stickers and trying to awaken you to the issues of GMO food and Common Core Education.  You may have heard me talk about repealing the NY Safe Act and standing up for the Constitution. You may be one of the 5,191 signatures I received from people who after talking to me decided that I should be a choice on the ballot on November 4, 2014 –the 11th Anniversary of the day my daughter took her life due to Pharmaceutical medication she never should have been prescribed and the reason I do what I do -to save another parent the heartache I have lived through.
You may be one of the 5,191 people who spoke to me about their own children and big pharma or how your family is coping with the GMO food issue or the vaccine issue or the smart meter issue or the loss of liberty and the red light and speed cameras and your child dealing with Common Core and the countless other issues we’re all dealing with day after day on Long Island while paying the highest taxes in the country.  Yes, you may be one of those people who signed my petition and thanked me for running for office and wished me luck….or said to me “Sure, everyone has a right to be on the ballot” or “Everyone has a right to run for office”.  Maybe you are one of 5,191 people that I spoke to personally that WANTED ME TO BE ON THE BALLOT!
10599390_606194609500742_109805548644424395_n
And maybe, just maybe……. party politics is a disgrace in this country and it culminates in the District 5, Long Island, New York, Republican Party where they decided they didn’t want any competition from a woman who has stood on corners day after day, month after month for years holding signs and trying to awaken people to issues….they didn’t want competition from a woman who runs an organization, Save Long Island, that shows films and has speakers to talk about the very issues she planned on fighting the government for the very people who are being affected by them –who may have signed the petition to get me on the ballot….
10495572_10152155878546415_1939588797534344265_oMaybe just maybe the same people who voted to infringe on the constitution…who voted to allow Common Core education…who vote to mandate vaccines that go virtually untested to support their big pharma money habit…. who keep you from knowing what you’re eating so they can protect corporations…who voted to infringe on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution… who lie, cheat, and pat each other on the back in all their hypocrisy…are the very people who have decided to make sure I don’t get on the ballot by challenging ALL 5,191 signatures as FRAUDULENTLY Obtained!?
abc
Not one, but THREE different people have been “used” by the Republican party to keep me off the ballot so that I don’t upset the apple cart known as NY Politics where there is no difference between Republicans or Democrats and where they work together to keep their cushy jobs with no term limits and lifetime benefits so that they can rub shoulders, attend luncheons, ribbon cuttings and parades and have “environmental photo contest” while our liberties keep being infringed upon because they all want to be the next “rock-star” and come up with the newest bill/law that will be sure to generate more money in their pockets and less in yours. But you signed my petition and you heard me out and you wanted me to be on the ballot……yet –the people in the Republican Party are saying you can’t have your way –as they say time and time again.
abcde

Never forget who they are and what they do.  As your children get tortured by the corporations who fund these unethical immoral “suits” and your future on Long Island is looking bleaker and bleaker –remember that you took a moment to sign a petition to get a mother, an activist and an ordinary citizen on the ballot so that YOU could have a choice and that “party” politics would not have it because, in the end, they are not here for your best interest.  They are here to line their own pockets and proclaim their own power over …..YOU.

On GMO’s and Libertarianism by Gene Trosper

images (1)

I’ve looked at both sides and I was initially very much against mandatory labeling. Mandatory *anything* activates my libertarian reflexes.

Let’s leave science out of the argument. Let’s leave the hipster “foodie” angle out of it. Instead, let us focus on the following:

Freedom of choice
Corporatism and corporate welfare
Freeing the market

Libertarians find themselves in a pickle: how to shrink (or even eliminate) government in the face of an ever-growing behemoth. Branches may be hacked, but the tree keeps growing. Clearly, voting for liberty-friendly candidates hasn’t had an iota of influence over shrinking government. Our much vaunted “think tanks” issue some good ideas, but the legislature generally ignores those ideas. Protests? They send us to “free speech zones” or hit us with tear gas, water cannons, LRAD, and goons with armor and billy clubs. Yeah…pretty ineffectual.

But what if you can turn government upon itself? Fight fire with fire?

That’s where mandatory GMO labeling comes into play. By passing labeling in one or two states, you begin the process of state governments (who are bound to defend voter-approved initiatives) conflicting with the federal government. This is currently what is happening with the marijuana legalization movement in numerous states. These states are essentially weakening segments of the federal government. Do libertarians generally support these legalization movements, especially in Washington and Colorado? You bet. However, these laws contain some anti-liberty components. yet, with these anti-liberty components, the good vastly outweighs the bad. These initiatives are a net benefit to liberty. The same can be said of mandatory GMO labeling.

The makeup of modern agriculture is not one of family farms, but one of massive corporate “factory farms” who rely on federal subsidies to maintain and increase their profit. This is wrong to any liberty minded individual. Corporations benefit from the stolen money of taxpayers to feather their already luxuirious nests. These subsidies are also used to help “study” and develop GMO crops.

Libertarians like to say they are for freedom of choice. One popular LP bumpersticker proclaims “I’m Pro-Choice on Everything!” However, for the average shopper, freedom of choice in the grocery store with regard to GMO foods is close to impossible. Yes, there is a voluntary NON-GMO labeling project underway and that is a good thing. But it barely comes close to scratching the surface. It’s said that roughly 90% of all corn and soybeans are genetically modified. Walk down the isle of your grocery store and read the ingredients list. It’s absolutely astounding how many products contain corn and/or soy products. These products are all silent as to whether they contain GMO ingredients.

So, here we have an interesting situation: big ag corporations feasting on taxpayer subsidies to develop and produce products that are genetically modified, which are most assuredly in most foods consumers purchase at the grocery store — and these products are unlabeled. So, where is the freedom of choice for consumers? How does one tell if the food they are purchasing contains products which their stolen taxpayer dollars helped to develop and produce? How can they determine if those products contain ingredients which can have potentially negative consequences for their health and the health of their families? Consider: if these ingredients DO have potentially negative health consequences, how evil is it for corporations to use taxpayer money to foist these products onto the consumer? It’s like forcing someone to pay for the bullet they will be shot with.

If that isn’t bad enough, the freedom of choice for consumers is limited even more by so-called “veggie libel laws”, which make it a civil offense (in Colorado, it is a criminal offense!) to imply that certain food products are “bad”. The biggest example is the lawsuit the Texas cattlemen filed against Oprah Winfrey. She did an episode on Mad Cow Disease and declared she would not eat beef anymore. The Texas cattlemen determined this libeled their product and took her to court. What she expressed was her opinion. Big ag decided that opinions hurt their bottom line. Numerous other cases show that veggie libel laws have chilling effect on free speech. Have you noticed that certain dairy products contain the following label: “FDA States: No significant difference in milk from cows treated with artificial growth hormone.”? I found that on a diary product in Whole Foods, of all places. Do you know why that label exists? Oakhurst Dairy was given a “Quality Seal” from the state of Maine because it was rBGH free. Monsanto was the corporation which developed the rBGH hormone and they demanded that Maine stop issuing such seals. Maine refused, so Monsanto went after Oakhurst Dairy by suing them, and now, Oakhurst Dairy (Maine’s largest dairy) carries that label.

So much for free choice.

Libertarians like to say “let the market decide”. That is the most simplistic and asinine statement that could be made when there is nothing resembling a free market in big ag. Not only does it reflect general ignorance of the situation, it also demonstrates a general “I don’t give a shit” social Darwinist attitude toward the average person. Libertarians can redeem themselves by supporting GMO labeling, which would go a long way toward dismantling the corporatist grip on the food we eat and untangling the unholy alliance between corporation and government. If it weren’t for the government, companies such as Monsanto would not be engaged in bullying tactics, sucking on the teat of subsidies, and purposefully deceiving consumers by hiding the fact their products contain GMO ingredients.

I hear the chorus of libertarians bleating: “but you can’t use the force of government! It never solves anything!” But what most libertarians do not understand is that this force of government will be used upon itself, not innocent corporations or consumers. If there WAS a free market, there would be no subsidies. There would be no veggie libel laws. there would be no deceiving consumers by hiding the nature of ingredients. Libertarians are against fraud, correct? Then manufacturers who use GMO ingredients are committing fraud against consumers by declaring their product to be “natural”, when there is absolutely nothing “natural” with splicing genetics.

To sum this all up: big ag is committing force and fraud against consumers and taxpayers with the collusion of government. It is absolutely moral and appropriate to use government at the state level against government at the federal level. if small government libertarians wish to be consistent, then they will use GMO labeling laws to protect individuals against the greater force and fraud we face. After all, small government libertarians consent to government existence for the purpose of protecting us from force and fraud. What makes this any different? Nothing.

“Save Long Island Forum” Coming in January 2014 ‘The Event’ Issues, Answers and The Great Debate!

Coming  January 17 – 19, 2014 – An Event unlike any other…..  It’s about the ISSUES!  If you have the questions…..these A+ Speakers have the answers!

And then there is the great debate 🙂

The Event

The event is broken up into three days with something special going on during each of them. For those who get the Snowed In Package or the Three Day Pass [get ’em here], they’re going to be in for a treat that will not disappoint. Here are the three days broken down.

Day #1: The Friday Night Special

Our event kicks off with a night to remember for all of those that show up on this night. First off is a special dinner welcoming all of those who have decided to join us and our speakers who have graced our event with their presence. The 115 people who get tickets to this night will not be disappointed as they will be able to interact not only with each other but also our speakers as we warm ourselves up for the weekend that is ahead. The dinner will then be followed with an event that many in the realm of economics have been salivating for.

For years now, those discussing the current state of our economy, though agreeing on their being a serious problem to the economy, have been divided over the solution to the problem. Back and forth these factions have argued over this topic through magazine articles, social media sites and talks to those who have usually come to listen to just their side of the puzzle. Now, we are going to hear from both sides of the issue at the same time. On this night, we shall have a monetary debate like no other between Bill Still & Austrian School economist and anarcho-capitalist Robert Murphy.

As many know these two come from schools of monetary thought that are not only at odds, but are diametrically opposed to each other. Whereas Still believes the government, through The Treasury Department, can and should effect monetary policy, Murphy believes that the government has no business at all in the Nation’s economy and that the Free Market should be the sole arbiter of the national economy. This is a debate that is surely not to be missed as it’s one that many have been wishing to happen for years now.

And to top it all off, we shall be having a special MC for this debate: the self proclaimed King of accountability, facilitator of awesome, ambassador of badass, and defender of freedom himself — Tony Stiles, whose radio show (and just overall personality) are known to be anything but the ordinary (click the image to check out his website).

Our event will bring it to you, but only if you get tickets to it quick.

Day #2: The Saturday Main Event

On day two of our event, the main reason you came is to take form: the all-day fest of speakers, knowledge & hope.  This is the day that the people who come will get their chance to be exposed to information the likes of which they may never have considered existing. These speakers come from all walks of the spectrum of information, from education to Agenda 21, the economy to drone warfare, NSA spying to vaccination, and much more. Even if you are knowledgeable in one or a number of the issues we will be talking about at our event, you will learn something new as very few know about all of these issues, and of those individuals, even they can learn something new at this incredible event.

From 11am to 10pm on this day you will get to hear from a line up of individuals the likes of which have never been assembled in the same room. Several of them have conflicting views on what’s important to them, some are from what the media calls the ‘Liberal Left’ , others from the ‘Conservative Right’, but all care about the future of our nation and all of them will be talking about not what divides us, like Left or Right, but what unites us and that is the issues.

What issues will be spoken about and who will be speaking on them? Just take a look for yourself, click on an image and find out who’s here for what:

Bill Still - The Economy
Charlotte Iserbyt - Education
Fred Eichorn - Alternative Health
G. Edward Griffin - Agenda 21
Jake Hays - Fracking
Jerry Day - Smart Meters
KrisAnne Hall - The 4th Amendment
Kristen Meagan - Geo-engineering
Linda Booker - Industrial Hemp
Mary Tocco - Vaccines
Medea Benjamin - Human Rights
Sherif Richard Mack - The 2nd Amendment
Joanne Naughton of LEAP - The War On Drugs
Joah Tolley - Small Business
Robert Murphy - Austrian Economics

Day #3: The Sunday Brunch Day

Day three shall be another special event for those who are lucky enough to join us for it. On this day we will be having a special brunch for those who have stayed through the weekend with us and our speakers who have graced us with there presence. Even better, the brunch shall only be the opening of this incredible day  as, afterwards, we shall be having a special Q&A panel where you will be able to ask questions of our speakers, questions that are important to you. But not only this, these speakers will get the chance to talk about the one thing that is more important then any of the problems that we face, and that is the solutions they believe are necessary to help us through them.

It’s the solutions that matter more then anything and these great guest of ours know this, so they will be taking the time to give us their ideas of what the solutions maybe to the issues that matter most to us. Will these speakers be talking of solutions when they make their speeches on Saturday? Of course they will, but there are more issues then just the ones they will be talking about and their many lifetimes of knowledge and experience make them the perfect choice to enlighten those of us that care on the path that we should take to save Long Island and save our great country.

MC-ing the panel discussion shall be Josh Tolley so don’t miss out on all that we have to offer. Get your tickets NOW, right here.

And remember that half of the proceeds from ticket sales will be going to the Feal Good Foundation who’s work with First Responders has been above and beyond what anyone could have imagined an organization could do for these brave individuals, sickened by the dust and toxic air quality surrounding ground zero after the attacks of 9-11. Your participation in this event will not only help bring knowledge to others, but shall also help this organization help them. So thank you and we can’t wait to see you there.

Gigi Bowman interviewed by fellow Liberty Candidate Danny de Gracia

LONG ISLAND, NY, January 23, 2013 ― The rallying cry of the Ron Paul Revolution has been a call to action for some of the most sincere and idealistic people from all across the United States. Many of them have no prior experience in politics but feel a heartfelt mission to make a difference in a world needing desperate change. One such woman is Gigi Bowman, founder of the Liberty Candidates organization which helps unite libertarian minded people of all parties to get their message out and win elections.

Since founding Liberty Candidates in 2009, Bowman’s organization has fielded hundreds of candidates and given their message a national forum to be heard and recognized.

Bowman, who is one of the Ron Paul movement’s most dedicated organizers, entered politics following the tragic loss of her daughter in 2003 to prescription medication. She has been a dynamic advocate for such controversial topics as pharmaceutical reform, GMO labeling and many other issues that candidates and parties are too timid to challenge. Taking her advocacy to the next level, Bowman announced last week her intention to run for office, seeking the New York State Senate seat for District 5.

Gentle yet every bit a courageous mother figure, Bowman wrote in an announcement e-mail to supporters, “I have watched as the loss of liberty has become more and more apparent … I am stepping up today to run for office because I cannot sit back and watch any longer as our beautiful country and the freedoms and liberties that our founders fought so hard for are diminished daily by political parties and administrations that are working against the people, not for the people. While we are struggling to afford what we hope are fresh, healthy food for our children, our legislators spend their days doing photo-ops, ribbon cuttings and running photo contests about our environment instead of educating us about what is happening to our community – most likely they don’t even know themselves!”

I sought out Gigi Bowman for an interview to discuss what her take was on President Obama’s new term and how national politics would affect her candidacy and state policy.
